Beach Bums... Very White Beach Bums.

Left Sydney this morning to travel to the best known beach in the area: Bondi. We got a good education in the Aussie sense of direction (hint: very similar to their overall "no worries" ways). Since the bus map may as well have been written in Chinese, we asked literally 10 people (most of them actual bus drivers) which bus to take to Bondi, and got 10 different answers. It mostly went like this. "How do we get to Bondi Beach?" Driver #1 "You need the 378". Driver of bus 378 "Nope, I don't go there, take the 370." 2 bus drivers later (not the 370) "Yeah, I can take you to the junction, then you need bus 280." Bus 281 pulls up and we ask if it goes there and he says "yep". I'm amazed they get anywhere!

We spent the afternoon in the sun at Bondi Beach doing a whole lotta nothin (except blinding the locals with our pasty Canadian skin), and it was fantastic! Ate lunch a Bungabar... thanks to the MANY friends who recommended it... best Strawberry daquiris I have ever had. Mom - I had a second one for you... they are almost as good as Dave's :) We had a good laugh at all of you who were dragging your tired butts to work in the snow or rain this morning! But, to make you all feel a bit better, we are currently staying in a hostel (Noah's) that is GHETTO. We are in a 8 person co-ed dorm with some guys from Germany and Belgium. They are all pretty cool, but were definitely surprised to see girls in the room... one guy walked in from the shower just as we arrived in basically a hand towel around his waist!! His face was priceless! In our showers, you literally have to PICK UP the shower door and move it to a closed position, and water still goes everywhere. Ah, the joys of budget traveling! Another thing about the place is that these computers are from approx. the birth of Christ... so no pictures once again! What does it say about Oz that there are no computers anywhere that can upload pictures, yet I found one in EVERY place I went to in Peru??

Mars and I are off to Byron Bay tomorrow... have to leave here at 7am to catch our flight, and also have to finish the big bottle of vodka we bought.... quite the dilemma. Will let you know how that turns out. There is a bar in our hostel , so we will probably hang out there tonight, as there is not much else happening on a Monday. Stay tuned as we travel up the coast with virtually no plan and no map...
