Bad Fridge Karma... Apparently it follows you for life.
After a week of couch surfing at our friend Nathan's, Mars and I have moved into a place that we will be calling home for the next 4 months. All of the places that we looked at were really nice... this town is a very chill, very posh surf town... but as you can see from the video attached, the one we chose is AMAZING. We realize that we have absolutely no business living in a place this nice during our year long backpacking adventure, but everyone we have met here lives in a similar (or better) pad, so we figured we should do our best to try and get the most authentic local experience possible! haha! While our place may look different from where we lived in Toronto, we have found a surprising number of strange similarities:
1. It is a 2 level place in a great area of town, and the only thing in the cupboards is booze.
2. Our landlord is crazy. Apparently "fully furnished" means "everything except a tv and plates!" We are having flashbacks of our apartment in TO that didn't even have a shower head.
3. We are stealing free wireless internet.
4. It is snowing here... oh wait... that's not true... its sunny and 30 degrees every day!
5. And last but not least, our fridge is broken!!! For those unfamiliar with our TO fridge situation, we went through 2 of them (the first one had the worst smell ever, the second one leaked) and had to go 6 weeks without one. Our first night in the place, all of the power went out and after some detective work, we realized the fridge was shorting the fuse. It has been 5 days and we still have no idea when a new fridge or a repair man will be arriving. In a past life, we must have really angered an appliance to deserve this!
Now, we just need the second part of the equation to fall into place - jobs!! We are pounding the pavement (in between trips to the beach, Sydney, and the bars) and hope to have jobs ASAP... because this place is EXPENSIVE.
Now that you have seen the digs, we want to tell everyone that they are more than welcome to come for a visit... as long as you bring us some Kraft Dinner. They only have Easy Mac here. What kind of backwards country is this??
Note: Mars and I are posting this at an internet cafe on Hastings Street... just sweating like animals!! We look like old church ladies because we are fanning ourselves with Chinese fans. haha! Make sure to check out the post below for our road trip details....

If I come visit you, I am NOT moving any fridges up and down stairs!!
ReplyDeleteYour place looks awesome. I'm so glad you girls found a place.
ReplyDeleteWow - what luxury for travellers on a budget. Does the pool go with the "pad"?? Very posh - you girls have moved up in the world. No fridge means no groceries and no need to cook - just what you two prefer! Would love to come and visit - but unlike you guys - I have to work! Maybe Daniel will be able to come down under - end of April - first of May. Good luck with the job hunt.
ReplyDeleteWow...place looks awsome! Kimberly, I hope you had your camera's wrist strap on when you shot that video! You two must have livers like 90 year olds! Tee hee...hope your job hunt is successful.
