Goodbye Kangaroos... Hello Kiwis!!
Well, we certainly went out with a bang... or in our case, many many vodka sodas. Our very last night in our adopted hometown of Noosa was spent partying hard with all of my friends from work. We had a great night, and are both sad to leave all of the great people and chill lifestyle. The party was exactly what we wanted: open bar. It seemed like a good idea at the time... until we had to get up for a 8:30am house inspection and a 10am bus! Somehow, we made it. We always make it (even if it means boarding a train looking like THIS!). Our official verdict is also always the same: We think we have already packed too much stuff. We blame this on the over packing gene inherited from our 'rents, as we have to pack for every possible unanticipated tragedy, natural disaster, and health issue!
Alas, after a rough day of hungover travel, we arrived in Christchurch, New Zealand. To zero degree weather!! Our newly acclimatized Aussie skin was not happy! We spent the day today wandering around the town on foot. Check out those stylin $0.50 Salvation Army jackets!Christchurch is apparently New Zealand's most "English" influenced town... which means it had a famous cathedral and plenty 'o fish and chip shops. We climbed to the top of Christchurch Cathedral (at a discounted student rate... hopefully god is a traveler, or we're going to hell), walked the large botanical gardens, played in the Body Action exhibit of the museum (it was for kids, but the "smell the clowns breath and guess what he ate" type games were quite fun!), ate from food carts in Cathedral Square (while a tag team of guys preached to nobody in particular from the top of a crate), and watched the ducks as we strolled along the Avon River (more like a stream) that runs through the city. All this AFTER we slept in until noon...! In our defence, we're getting old, we were hungover, and the rooms in our dorm had heated blankets. The only other girl in our dorm room is an American girl named Jess who is traveling alone after taking a semester off from Yale(!!), so being the chatty Canadians we are, we invited her to hang out with us tonight. By a bit of guidebook knowledge, and a lot of luck, we found out that the musical "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change!" was playing at the Arts Centre. So the three of us got dressed in our theatre best, aka Ugg Boots and cheap jackets, and headed out. The play was fantastic, and the four person cast was extremely talented and funny. An excellent show for only $25 NZD (about $20CDN). Gotta love those student rates. We finished off the night with a classy meal from McDonalds. It really does taste the same EVERYWHERE!
Tomorrow we are on an early bus to Queenstown, about 8 hours south west of here. Bungee jumping, here we come!
