Living the Thai Life!

After possibly the worlds best 9 hour flight on Thai Air (2 Free Wines + Sleeping Pill = We're there already?!?) we arrived in Thailand! We are currently on Koh Samui Island in the south of the country. We are staying in a very nice hotel for $10 each per night! Things here are pretty cheap, which is awesome considering we are now officially poor backpackers. Ah, the days of our fancy Noosa apt are long gone as we haggle with the front desk staff over room rates and take the one that is cheaper, but about 300 stairs up. haha. Also, the days of cold NZ are long behind us... it is SWEATY here. Humidity is at 1000%! Nice to be near pools and beaches. We've only been here for 2 days, but have had some very unique experiences. On a whim, we passed by this place called Dr. Fish where they have fish in a spa bath that basically eat the dead skin off your body. Mars used some of her birthday $$ from my fam to treat us both to a 1/2hr fish session!! They attacked our gross backpacker feet instantly! Felt like a cross between jacuzzi bubbles and the feeling you get when your foot falls asleep.. so bizarre, but the fish did a damn good job! We wandered around the Chaweng Beach main strip, had some excellent Thai curry and satays, and got used to the local modes of transport.... we have been riding on big open air trucks that everyone just jumps in and out of. You have to negotiate the price in the middle of the street, but they are WAY cheaper than taxis. Also had a fun ride with a scooter taxi! Everyone here rides scooters... including many families like this one who just pile their kids on the front! North American safety seats are not known here. The island is pretty much exactly what we pictured Thailand to be like. We still can't believe we're here.
Our first night in town (last night) we met a group of fellow Canadians and had some dinner and thai beer with them. Then we hit the strip to see the famous Thai Lady Boys. They put on a full cabaret show! I swear, for some of them, you would NEVER know they were boys... they are some of the most beautiful women we have ever seen!!! Also, one of them totally looked like Pheebs!! Don't you think?? We just got back from seeing the Big Buddah. You have to take your shoes off, and many Thai people were there worshipping. Very neat.
Tomorrow we are off to the next island north, Koh Phangan, for the famous Full Moon Party! A massive beach party with 10,000 of us all on the beach at Haad Rin drinking vodka and redbull out of buckets! (Don't worry, we'll be safe!) Can't wait! Us old girls still have some Western party left in us!!
